Education
The League supports adequate and equitable funding at the national level for all levels of public education. The League of Women Voters, in its national, state and local efforts, is committed to continuing efforts to establish excellence in all our children's schools. Any attempt to change the NRS regarding education must keep these priorities in mind: constitutionality, fiscal, equal access, transparency and accountability.
The Committee typically meets prior to League meetings on the 3rd Saturday of the month.
Some issues the Committee will consider to pursue include the following:
• No Child Left Behind • Funding to the national level • Recruitment and retention of quality teachers • Full day kindergarten • Breaking up the Clark County School District

Environment
The Environment Committee is composed of people interested in learning more about various aspects of our environment, the political processes that govern decisions about the environment; and sharing ideas and stories about those issues. "Environment" encompasses a lot of territory! The following issues all fall under the environment umbrella.
• Air • Water • Renewable energy resources • Pollution of all types • Population • Land use
We don't place a very heavy burden on our members, although we hope to undertake a project or two this year.
Meeting place and time to be announced.

Health
The LWVUS believes that a basic level of quality health care at an affordable cost should be available to all U.S. residents. The League favors a national insurance plan financed through general taxes in place of individual insurance premiums.
With these positions in mind, the League of Women Voters of Las Vegas Valley formed and worked with the Nevada Health Care Reform Project. This project for over fifteen years supported a national health care system. In that time, State legislation was written and supported for a Patient Protection Act, establishment of the Office of the Governor Consumer Health Assistance and external review of a denial from a health insurance company.
The Committee has written and worked on passage of legislation to test height and weight of children in public schools.

Juvenile Justice/Children At Risk
The Juvenile Justice Committee is changing its name to Children At Risk in order to better convey the purpose and goals ofo the committee. We are always looking for more participants and encouraging everyone to get involved, considering our latest outbreak of violence in our communities and schools. "Just say yes."
We meet on Saturday mornings immediately after the General Meeting. Look for the table with the red, white and blue balloons.

Legislative - all politics are local / revenue in Nevada should reflect the 21st Century
The members of local Leagues are invited to participate in the State League of Women Voters Legislative Committee. The committee will focus on working year-round on political issues that impact the quality of life in our communities.
We want to monitor legislative activity as we prepare for the 2013 Legislative Session. We also hope to network and work with elected officials and like-minded organizations in developing grassroots projects while the legislature is out of session, given that legislative activity does not cease between sessions. As a group, the Nevada League meets year-round. The mission of the Legislative Committee will include energizing and focusing efforts and projects with a resonant consistent voice. As we meet, discuss and research, our committee will develop our legislative agenda so as to better prepare for the 2013 Legislative Session. The 2011 session was less than proactive and did much that was regressive. During the interim, the LWVNV Legislative Committee will be working on tax reform policy. While the League appreciates process, the three branches of government and the responsibiltiy of the legislature to control the purse strings, the Nevada Legislature has not been able to achieve sensible, stable tax policy which impacts state government efficiency effectiveness and acountability. The committee will initiate networking and communicate with candidates and elected officials to understand their platform as it relates to League positions.
